What happens between the end of the submission period and the jury’s decision?

Well, first of all there is a deliberation period in which we will contact some of the shortlisted artists to know about any possible detail regarding the project. Around a month later the winner, and only the winner, will be contacted again and both the artist (content) and ourselves (edition) will start working in the book itself with October of this same year as deadline for the publication.

When will I know the winners of Puchi Award?

There is no date foreseen, but it will be sometime between the end of April and the begining of May.

Will the winner receive funds for the sales of the book published others than the prize?

Absolutely. As in any standar publishing agreement, the author will receive an advance on royalties. Once the sales cover this amount, the author will receive their all the sums in the royalties anual statement.

Should the work be finished in order to send it to Puchi? Could it be just halfway? Could it be just a rough idea?

Unfinished works are not accepted. In previous calls, ongoing projects were accepted, but experiences tells it makes the publication proccess much more complicated.
By finished work we mean a first draft of the manuscript.

To what kind of genres is the competition aimed to?

A book can contain everything and anything, and that is precisely what this contest wants: fiction and non-fiction, essays, informative literature, poetry, illustration, comics, cookbooks, geography books, combinations of the above or any other type of work. We are looking for a one of a kind book, even a book that is a whole new genre on its own.

What kind of attributes will the jury be considering in order to choose for the winner?

The main aim of this award is to give visibility to great quality and innovating works that stand out because of their main idea, humour, humanity or artistic level in general. The background of La Casa Encendida as a cultural institution and Fulgencio Pimentel as a publisher should be good hints, but the rest of the members of the jury will vary in each edition and the resulting criteria of the jury as a whole will prevail.

Should my work have any specific lenght or format limitation to be elegible?

No. There is no limitation. Your work can have as many pages as necesary, as many images as necesary. There will be no limits at all.

How many project can I submit?

As many as you wish. You must send one different application for each project.

Should I register my work to take part in the contest?

Registering submitted works with the Intellectual Property Register is not in any case a requirement to entry the competition. It is always up to the author. The call says that the author is the only responsible for doing it.

We would like to submit a collective project. Should we need to fill in several applications?

No. You just need to submit one application per project. One of the members must act as a representative of the collective, but you must provide information (CV) about all the members. Only the ID of the representative will be required.

Where should I upload my work ? What I am suposed to write in all these fields in the form?

Dossier and other documents: you can use the field “dossier” if you need to include expanded info on your work that you cannot include in the abstract (if you need more space to write, or you need to include images or graphics). If you do that, your project should be then attached in the field “other documents”. If you won’t use “dossier” to include more info, you can attach your project instead.

Production requirements: it is not a mandatory field, it is refered to technical aspects on the work for our consideration, as for example, type of paper, printing, binding or whatsoever other material aspects you consider the book should have and why.

Images, audio, links, etc.: you will only use those fields in order to provide aditional material if you need it. Your work must be submited as a document (word or pdf) at “dossier” or at “other documents”.

Please note: the sample translation in English can be included in the same document of the work, or in a different one in “other documents”.

My project is not written in English, so why am I required to send at least two pages in English?

Although it is held by a Spanish institution and a Spanish publisher, Puchi is an international contest and you can send your project in any of the languages of the world, or even in Klingon or Elvish if you think that your work asks for it. Given that the members of the jury are very unlikely to know all of the languages of the world, we had two options: ask for everyone not writing in Spanish to submit their works in English —maybe not their first language— or ask for a small sample in English to have at least a rough idea. It’s not a big effort, and it is just fair that this is asked to anyone applying. On the other hand, and given again that this is an international contest, the jury could be not always Spanish speaking, so some English pages would be needed anyhow. Probably this is not the perfect solution, but is close enough.
