Never Mind – Peiyang Xu

Peiyang Xu (2000) is a comic artist from Suzhou, China, currently based in Brussels. She graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2023 with a degree in Sculpture, and completed her MA in Graphic Storytelling at LUCA School of Arts in 2024. Her work, often rooted in black humor and surreal narratives, explores narrative trickery and power structures. With a strong focus on comics as a medium, she investigates the tensions between perception, authority, and the ethics of storytelling. NEVER MIND was born in response to a case of domestic violence close to the artist, which forced her to confront personal moral dilemmas. Peiyang Xu deploys a unique sense of humor to narrate a story set in a hotel that follows a security guard, his estranged left ring and pinky fingers, a (future) great artist, and the artist’s wife.

Aca & Ica – Ula Zuhra

Ula Zuhra (1993) is a storyteller, illustrator and visual artist based in Jakarta. Graduating from Universitas Pelita Harapan with a major of Graphic Design in 2012, she continued her studies in Venice at The School for Curatorial Studies in 2021. She co-founded Studio Cacing, an animation studio in 2021. Her works include themes of feminism, class, eroticism, mysticism and esoteric practices in Indonesia through a tongue-in-cheek satirical lens using a wide range of mediums such as painting, video, animation, comic and sculpture. “Aca & Ica” follows the issues urban youth face amidst the capitalistic hustle of city life, touching on various topics related to the experiences of women such as day-to-day body horror, consumerism, social politics, classism, gender roles, sexual violence and broader political issues prevalent in Indonesia.
